Freewell iPhone 17 Pro Max case system review

- Pros + cons

- Why this matters for mobile photography

THE CASE (BUILD & DESIGN)

- Premium feel

- Polycarbonate + metal (iron reinforcement)

- Black-on-black stripe design looks clean

- Subtle black-on-black Freewell logo

- Buttons responsive

- Multi-function button fully exposed (no functionality issues)

- Large bottom cutout — all cables fit

- Metal lens ring — solid but adds slight weight

Case Cons

there is very little

- Magnetic lens cap slightly wears paint around lens area

The LENS PROTECTOR (MAGNETIC CAP)

- Underrated accessory

- Protects lenses from scratches & dust

- Magnetic snap attachment

- Only attaches one direction

- Quick to remove and reinstall

- Good for bag carry & travel

the MAGSAFE Feature

- MagSafe area fully accessible

- Accessories attach securely

- No charging issues

The HAND GRIP

- Very well designed

- Excellent ergonomics

- Power switch (prevents accidental shots in bag)

- Integrated Arca-Swiss base

- Removable Bluetooth remote shutter

- Multiple ¼-20 mounting points

- Expands for selfies

- Remote magnetically docks into back of grip

- Makes phone feel like a real camera

PROBLEM WITH OTHER 3rd Party FILTER HOLDERS

- Tried multiple 67mm holders (ex: JJC MagSafe, screw in etc

- Major issue: light gaps on sides

- Causes:

  - flares

  - washed out images

- Daytime shooting worst

- Night shooting sometimes OK

- Attempted gaffer tape light seal

- Messy & unreliable

There needs to be some type of a skirt but I can’t find any at this time

FREEWELL FILTERS (LIMITATION)

- Freewell long slip-in proprietary filters and round magnetic proprietary filters

Most high-end phone case companies have their own proprietary filters

Great money maker and marginal quality- usually tier 2 to tier 4 quality

- Proprietary — only works with this case

- Cannot use on other cameras or accessory lenses

There are only 6 filters to choose from ???

Some photographers only need 1 filter?

Is this a Tier 1 filter?

I don’t want limits on my creativity, now or in the future

NOW - GAME CHANGER — 67MM FILTER ADAPTER

- Most important accessory in the system

- Now sold separately

- Magnetic mount - strong

- Complete light seal

- True threaded 67mm mount

WHAT THIS MEANS….

MAVEN FILTER COMPATIBILITY

- Attach 67mm Maven magnetic adapter ring

- Use professional filters on a phone

- Magnetic — fast changes

- Same filters usable on pro cameras

optical glass

Knurled ring - finger control

Color ID coded - patented design - All others are in violation..

16 layers of MRC - reduce reflections

Tier 1 ND Color - IN all

- More flexible - long-term expanding systemI

FILTER OPTIONS I’M USING

- Polarizers

- Dark polarizers

- Polarizer with diffusion

- ND filters (2-stop to 20-stop)

best for highest quality

Variable Density is for “run and gun” minimalist

- Variable density combo

- Infrared

- Gradients

- Magic variable gradient

- Cinematic blue & gold flare

- Laser protection

- Close-up diopters

- Glow/Mist diffusion

- Star Arm filters

- Dream soft

- Kaleidoscope

- Streak filters

-Starry Focus

-Night Sky

- B&W red / orange / yellow filters

- Magnetic ring light

CONCLUSION

My final thoughts on this product

- Turns iPhone into a real photographic tool

- Much more creative flexibility

For me…

- Best part of the Freewell system = 67mm adapter
